5-Minute Hairstyles for the Busy Mom
This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca and Goody #GoodyTips sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by the sponsors.
How does a typical morning look in your home? I’ll give you a little glimpse into my world. Alarm goes off at 6am – and by alarm, I mean my 4-year-old son waking up and recreating live battle scenes in his bedroom. It’s usually the cannonball blasts that guarantee we wake up! My husband gets up first, putting on the coffee before anything else.
Then it’s Abby’s turn to burst awake, sometimes with a cry, sometimes with sweet coos. At 21-months-old, once her eyes are open she’s ready to go. Breakfast, dressing, teeth brushing, lunches, bags, and getting out the door to the school bus stop in time… There is a lot happening first thing in the morning and spending hours on my hair just isn’t one of them. Are you nodding your head in agreement? I was hoping I wasn’t the only one.
All I’ve got is 5 minutes. That; I can squeeze in! Especially with the help of Goody’s hair accessory line which offers fun and easy hair solutions. Goody is available at: Walmart, Loblaws, Jean Coutu, and London Drugs.
Consider this post “The Busy Mom’s Guide to Hairstyling.” It’s not about perfect hair. It’s about finding playful, easy styles that make you feel good when you head out the door.
1. Topsy Tail Pony + Headband
- If you start with wet hair, try the Goody QuikStyle paddle brush to dry hair faster
- If you start with dry hair, the Goody Ouchless brush is perfect for getting out knots (and bedhead!). With the Ouchless brush you have 55% less hair breakage too!
- Create a side part
- With a SlideProof 4MM clearelastic, gather hair into a low ponytail
- Put on the Goody SlideProof extra wide headwrap – the silicone lining will keep it in place, so your hairstyle looks flawless all day.
- Create a hole right above your ponytail and grab the length of your pony, flipping it through the hole to create a topsy tail
- Pull through a few face-framing hair strands
This style is really easy to master and creates a polished, yet playful, look. I chose a neutral headband, however Goody has tons of colours to choose from, including vibrant pinks and greens.
2. The FULLer Ponytail
For this style, you will simply need two Goody SlideProof 4MM ClearElastics. The goal for this look is to create a longer, fuller ponytail. I’ve had so many people ask me if my hair has grown out or if I’m wearing extensions when I use this style! It’s super simple to do, yet creates a voluminous and trendy hair style.
- Brush and detangle hair with a Goody Ouchless brush
- Separate your hair at the top of your ear and clip the front portion up using a Goody Slide Proof Half Claw Clip. The silicone that is built into the clip will keep the top part of your hair out of the way while doing the bottom ponytail.
- Make a pony out of the bottom hair
- Then make a second pony out of the top hair
- Use both hands to fluff it up and tighten the hair through the elastic to add volume
- Fan it over the lower pony to conceal it
- Pull through a few face-framing strands of hair
3. Bed Head Half Up/Half Down ‘Do
When you’re running late with bedhead or you just washed your hair, but have no time to style it – grab a claw and do the half-up/half-down hairdo. It’s still pulled together enough to walk out the door with confidence.
- If you start with wet hair, try the Goody QuikStyle paddle brush to dry hair faster
- If you start with dry hair, the Goody Ouchless brush is perfect for getting out knots
- Section off a top part of your hair and gently tease the back of it, if you would like to add bit more volume. Otherwise, skip this step.
- Using a Goody Slide Proof Medium Half Claw Clip, gather the hair to centre back and clip up. What’s awesome about the Slideproof clip is that even with my thick hair, the clip holds my hair up without strands slipping out.
- Gently pull on the hair on the front top of head to “poof”up and add a bit of volume
- Pull through a few face-framing strands of hair
4. Half Up/Half Down Hairstyle with Side Braid
This style is similar to the one before, pulling your hair back to keep it out of your face, but keeping it down for a soft and romantic look. I did a simple three-strand braid, however you could also try the waterfall braid which is great for our readers who have amazing braid skills. Me, not so much 😉
- Brush and detangle your hair with the Goody Ouchless brush
- Create a side part
- Gather a few inches of hair along the side part and edge of your face
- Pull it back into a braid, braiding just until behind your ear
- To keep your braid just where you want it, secure with one or two Goody SlideProof Small Autoclasp Barrettes that you can count on to stay put. There are lots of designs and colours to choose from to go with any outfit!
The SLIDEPROOF barrettes have a unique silicone wave design and are available in basic high performance shapes, sizes, silhouettes and colours, including black and tort.
5. The Quick Faux Bob with Cute Headband
This is one of my favourite new hairstyles that I discovered while playing around with the Goody products. Being able to easily switch from my long hair to a bob is so much fun! Whether you have short hair or long hair, you can create this look using Goody SlideProof Skinny Headwraps, featuring a full layer of silicone so it stays in your hair all day.
- For long haired gals, use Goody Simple Styles Faux Bob Kit. The kit takes your long hair and turns it into a bob, by inserting your hair into the bob clip, rolling it up and pinning under the rest of your hair. Detailed instructions are on the packaging.
- Once your bob is in place (or if you have short hair to begin with), put on a Goody SlideProof Skinny Headwrap. Pick your favourite colour, there is a terrific selection available.
- Pull through about 2-inches of hair on each side of your face
- Create a gentle swoop and loosely tuck back behind the headwrap, with the exception of a few face-framing stands. If you have short hair, it will fall into the rest of your hair, but for long hair, you will have to use a bobby pin to tuck the ends under the pinned up bob.
The secret to keeping this hairstyle in place is the Goody SlideProof wave design, as seen in the picture above, which offers a secure hold.
Goody has so many smart and exciting products available that make doing your hair much easier, so you can get back to the important moments in life, like catching up over breakfast and morning snuggles.

Does the faux bob style last/hold? I’m thinking about trying it for a flapper costume.
Hi Rebecca, I have fairly thick hair and it held in mine, with a few extra bobby pins 🙂
