Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte
Although the warm weather is moving along, I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to iced beverages just yet – and I’m definitely not kicking my smoothie habit to the curb any time soon. Yes, reaching for a tall cold glass during steamy Summer days is probably more likely to happen than when there’s snow on the ground – but I’ll still make it happen, because they do the body good 😉
So, on that note, I’m kicking off this week with my first Fall Smoothie recipe (which I’m calling an iced pumpkin latte) and telling you all about the most amazing glass straw there ever was. What do you mean? you say, well let me tell you. It’s sort of like Cinderella’s glass slipper; it just fits and no other shoe (read: straw) will ever feel right again!
Once upon a time, my husband told me that I couldn’t re-use my plastic straws any longer, because they weren’t meant to be washed and re-used (bacteria). So, I hit up google in search of something better. Alas, I found Glass Dharma, THE source for glass straws.
“Since March of 2007 GlassDharma has been producing glass drinking straws. The GlassDharma mission is to create world-wide awareness about single use plastics and how damaging plastic straws are to our environment. Glass Straws provide an alternative that eliminates the need for straws made from plastic.” – glassdharma.com
Not only did Glass Dharma oblige my curiosity to a better smoothie-drinking way, they wanted to encourage y’all to make a change as well! They are offering a $25.00 gift certificate for glassdharma.com to one lucky reader, so that you too can fall in love with your very own glass slippers, ahem, I mean straw! All you have to do is enter below 🙂 Cheers! *GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. SORRY READERS, PLS CHECK OUT CURRENT GIVEAWAYS.

YUM! I have been looking for great fall drinks. I’m definitely going to have to give this a try. I love the straw – I hate plastic ones too, but like having a straw for iced coffee (so it doesn’t get on my teeth). Also, I have a fall giveaway on my blog you might be interested in: http://foodforthefresh.blogspot.com/2012/09/fall-giveaway.html
Water, Choc Milk, Diet Coke, Iced Tea. I only drink out of a straw, at the suggestion of my dentist – to avoid discoloration of my teeth.

I like the idea. But. Are they any more sanitary than plastic straws? How do you clean the insides?
Hi Shannon! I wash them in high heat, just like drinkng glasses. And se a pipe cleaner tool to wash inisde. They are quite sanitary and better for the environment! You can read more on Glass Dharma’s website. Thanks!
