Magic of Lights Ottawa: A Family Tradition for the Holidays
A Dazzling Holiday Tradition in Ottawa
The Magic of Lights Ottawa is back for its 9th season, and it’s brighter and more festive than ever! Running from November 22nd, 2024 through January 4th, 2025, this annual drive-through light show has become a beloved family tradition. Located at Wesley Clover Parks Campground in Ottawa’s west end, the 2-kilometre route dazzles with over 2 million lights, delivering holiday cheer and supporting an incredible cause—CHEO, the children’s hospital that does so much for youth and families in the community.
This year, my family and I bundled up for an evening of magic, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Cozy Up for a Festive Drive
As soon as we arrived at Wesley Clover Parks, the excitement set in. We came prepared with hot cocoas and some Christmas cookies, because snacks make any car ride extra cozy. There’s something magical about driving through the sparkling displays while listening to Christmas music, surrounded by the warm glow of twinkling lights.
The route winds through illuminated tunnels, intricate animated displays, and favorite holiday scenes that kids (and adults!) will absolutely love. We rolled down the windows to feel the crisp winter air and take in the dazzling light shows up close.
Highlights of the Experience
One of the standout parts of Magic of Lights is the variety of displays. From dancing reindeers and glowing snowmen to themed displays like Barbie and a prehistoric dinosaur scene, there’s something for everyone. My kids’ eyes lit up when we drove through the light tunnels, it really feels like you’re stepping into a winter wonderland.
A stop at the Mark Motors Group Holiday Pit Stop added even more festive fun. Guests can park, stretch their legs, and explore the illuminated walk-through forest trail. There are also plenty of photo opportunities for capturing those holiday memories (we couldn’t resist a family photo in front of one of the glowing trees).
Sweet Treats to Top It Off
No winter outing is complete without classic Canadian treats, and Magic of Lights delivers on this front, too! At the pit stop, we grabbed BeaverTails, more hot cocoa, and some Old-Fashioned Fudge—perfect for warming up on such a chilly night.
If you’re planning to get out of the car at the pit stop, make sure to bundle up! The temperature can drop quickly, but the warmth of a BeaverTail and cocoa makes it all worthwhile.
Why Magic of Lights is a Must-See
The Magic of Lights experience is perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to embrace the holiday spirit. The convenience of staying in your car makes it an ideal winter activity—especially on those extra cold nights. Plus, knowing that proceeds from the event support CHEO adds a heartwarming element to this already magical experience.
We loved how easy it was to enjoy as a family. From cozying up with snacks to admiring the beautiful displays and making pit-stop memories, the evening was full of festive joy.
