Made a Spaceship out of the Honest Box
The best piece of advice I’ve been given about having kids? Stock up on cardboard boxes. Seriously. Everyone can afford a cardboard box, they are free.99! And oh, the things you can do with them, the hours of fun and the amazing entertainment it can provide. It’s good stuff, really. You can build a house out of cardboard boxes, made a colourful toy storage, or create a spaceship to fly to the moon. That was Aiden’s request, so we used this month’s Honest shipment box to do just that. In our own way. Goodness knows this isn’t a perfect DIY, but it was a whole lot of fun to make.
What you will need
- A large cardboard box
- White and gold non-toxic acrylic paint
- Aluminum foil
- Craft glue
- Duck Tape
- Sharpie
- Thick string, yarn, or as shown – a broken cloth tape measure that needed a new purpose!
Instructions
- Cut two of the folding top pieces off the top of the box, to create two flapping wings and space to fit through.
- If the space is too big for your kiddo, use one of those spare box flaps and duck tape to the top (as shown).
- Paint the entire box white.
- Paint the bottom flaps in gold.
- Add buttons and whatnot all over the spaceship.
- Write random words that are fun and that your kid asks you to.
- Decorate with bits of aluminum foil, gluing down with craft glue.
- Punch two holes in front and two in back.
- Thread string through the holes to make shoulder straps.
- Pretty much do whatever you would like! 😉
- Have fun!
The last few shots of Little A. are pretty self-explanatory…this boy was happy with our creation!
I like the idea behind #honestDIY and using your shipment boxes to create something each time. Of course, you can do this with any box, but you get the idea. Recycle and have fun!
