Pomegranate Basil Sparkling Cocktail
Okay, here we go, it’s the weekend! On top of that, it’s a long weekend in Canada. So, party people – what are you up to? We’re hoping to get to the Tulip Festival and enjoy the millions of tulips in every colour. It’s amazing to see all of those cheerful flowers all over downtown Ottawa. Do you know the story of how we came into so many tulips? They were a gift from Princess Juliana of the Dutch Royal Family. As a thank you for keeping herself and other Holland exiled royalty safe during World War II and for the role that Canadian troops had in the liberation of the Netherlands, she presented Canada with 100,000 tulip bulbs in 1945. Now every year, we have a beautiful tulip festival! Pretty cool, huh?
Speaking of princesses – a Little Princess, that I personally know, just graduated from University this week! She, being my little sister that I am soooo proud of! Way to go Cassie, you did it (said in the same voice that Elle Woods uses at the end of Legally Blonde)!!
In her honour, I would like to make a toast;
“Here’s to all of your hard work, perseverance, determination, and sheer brilliance! Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment in your life – you’re going places girl! I love you and I’m so happy for you!”
Cheers to life’s momentous occasions, to long weekends, to the small things, to the big things, and all the good stuff in between.
Now let’s make a cocktail!
Pomegranate Basil Sparkling Cocktail
- 3 oz. pomegranate juice (POM or made)
- 2 oz. orange juice
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 basil leaf, chopped
- 6 ice cubes
- 2-4 oz. carbonated water
- lime wedge for garnish
In a shaker, put three ice cubes, pomegranate juice, orange juice, lime juice,
and chopped basil leaf. Shake well, until frothy. Use strainer and pour into a mason jar over three ice cubes. Add carbonated water on top, garnish with a few pomegranate seeds and a lime wedge. Enjoy!
To make pomegranate juice from seeds; you can put them in a blender or food processor and then strain them or put them in a plastic bag and roll over them with a rolling pin.
Note: if you want to spike the cocktail, add 1 oz. vodka
