Sunday Living 08.52

The way their nose turns up slightly, the little bow lips, and the hint of red in both of their hair. It’s there – sometimes subtle, sometimes clear as day – the resemblance. The look they both have that says, we’re siblings.

Aiden is an observant big brother; he always let’s me know what he thinks Abigail needs throughout the day; “Mama, Abigail needs a diaper change. Mama, Abigail wants milk. Mama, Abigail is tired.” He isn’t quite sure how to interact one on one with her yet, but he has these sudden bursts of affection towards her which let’s me in on how he really feels. A soft cuddle and kiss from him to her is just about the sweetest thing to witness. I feel privileged.

My days are full with these two. Full of love, full of messes, full of putting other things on hold, full of kisses, full of baths, full of lovely chaos. There is a new dynamic in our home, with a preschooler vying for attention and a newborn’s needs. Some days, I feel we have the perfect balance, and other times I feel like I’m missing the mark. But, I have to believe that love makes up for it.

These two make Mr. Smith and I more. They demand from us what we didn’t think we had inside of us. They stretch our hearts in the best of ways and for that we are grateful.
