Why Backyard Camping Is The Funnest Thing To Do Before Summer’s End
If you’ve got a backyard and a tent, there’s really nothing standing between having a fun-filled night of backyard camping. It doesn’t take much to have a blast with friends, your spouse, or with your children. We’ve been having a heat wave here in Ottawa and last night was the perfect evening to camp outside.
It didn’t take long to get things ready, 30 minutes tops. We pitched the tent, grabbed a few sleeping bags, a flashlight, some snacks, and a spooky book to read around the campfire…I mean, BBQ. Okay, so we were missing the campfire, but we have a BBQ so we found sticks, cleaned them off and roasted marshmallows on the open fire. We even made smores!
We sat around the tent, eating our treats, and reading a tale of stormy adventure. Little A. was thrilled to bits at camping out and was in charge of the flashlight. He was running around our backyard in search of ghosts and hollering at the bunnies and squirrels to go to bed…hehe, he took his job very seriously.
With only a little, we created a fun night that we’ll remember for a long time. As we prepare for going back to school this week, a final salute to summer and its magic was just what we needed. For myself, it felt so nice to just pause things and be together, being silly and enjoying each other’s company. My darling Abby was also having a blast, running around after her big brother and wild with the energy of the night.
Although it feels like summer is over with my son going back to school, I also think that there are a few weeks left before the official turn of seasons and so we’re making the most of outdoor activities – like backyard camping and outside swimming.
This morning, when Little A. woke up with the sunrise, he was so happy that he spent the night under the stars camping and felt so proud that he had taken on the night and the wilderness of our backyard.
Happy camping friends!
